Sex, Food, and Cash

Creating this painting, I had a one-, two-, three-type formation I kept in mind thinking of my talk with Desiree´. They explained that while some people use self injury to regulate their distress, she, however, was already experiencing an enormous amount of pain in their childhood home. To bring herself relief, they found three powerful ways to soothe themselves: having sex, eating food, and spending cash on people she cared about. Sex, Food, and Cash uses sensual geometry and V-shaped structures to give Desiree´ survival skills representation. Soft angles and weaving lines appear as tangled arms and legs of so many lovers stacked on top of each other.
